The Federal City Brass Band/26th North Carolina Regimental Band
SUNDAY NOV 23, 2014 3:00 p.m.
The Federal City Brass Band was founded in 2002, and it accurately recreates the sound and appearance of a Union Army regimental brass band of the 1860’s. With the exception of some reproduction rope-tension drums, all of the instruments used by the Federal City Brass Band are original dating to the mid-19th century, and come from the collection of band members and from a Mark A. Elrod Collection. The sources of music the band plays include original band journals and sheet music of the Civil War era. The band is based in Baltimore, MD, but some members travel as far away as parts of New York State, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
The 26th North Carolina Regimental Band, originated in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Their debut performance took place in 2005 and they performed at the 2006 Moravian Music Festival in Columbus, Ohio. The original band was made up of Moravian Musicians who enlisted in the early spring of 1862 and served until the last week of the Civil War. Concerts recreated by the 26th North Carolina Regimental Band include music of the Moravian Heritage.
