Beginning Band Programs at Home Moravian Church
Free instruction.
The beginning band program meets on Tuesday nights starting the first Tuesday (Sept. 6) after Labor Day.
The class was formed to help support the Moravian Church bands in the Southern Province. The focus of the classes is to teach students how to read music, proper hand position and tone production so that those who complete the classes may return to their church congregation and support the music ministry with their instrument.
Beginning Class meets from 6:30 – 7:30 pm in the Choral Rehearsal Room at Home Moravian. Students in this class learn from the ground up how to read music and how to produce a proper tone production for their instrument. If you have never played or have played in the past and need a refresher course, this is the class for you. You will need to provide the instrument and the book we use which is the Standard of Excellence Beginning Band Book (Red).
Intermediate and Advanced Class meets from 7:30 -8:30 pm in the Choral Rehearsal Room at Home Moravian. Students in this class have completed the first year course or have already had experience in playing and want to go further with their understanding of tone production, rhythm, key signatures and ensemble work. We use both the Green and Blue Moravian Choral Books for this class.
Students from 4th grade up through adult are welcomed to attend classes, however, we ask that parents sit students from 4th to 6th grade. Parents are encouraged to play along with their child or to work with them in regards to learning to read music. It is easier when a young person has a study buddy they can speak to during the time of week we are not in class. And what better way to make a very special memory together than for a parent/guardian to participate along side their child.
Instruments recommended for beginners include: flute, clarinet, cornet/trumpet and trombone. Other wind instruments might be considered, but that may be discussed with the instructors at the first class.
