The Moravian Music Foundation preserves, shares, and celebrates Moravian musical culture.
The Moramus Chorale has been performing Moravian choral music and other music complementary to it since 1976 – 43 years and going strong! Under the direction of Drake Flynt, the chorale generally performs three concerts annually. This year the Chorale is stretching its wings a bit, with two (identical) concerts this May, a concert in late June, and a series of Singstunden scheduled for the fall.
Two identical performances are scheduled for May, featuring the Easter Cantata by Ernst Wilhelm Wolf (1735-1792). The first will be Friday, May 10, at 7:00 p.m. at Kernersville Moravian Church, 504 S Main St, Kernersville, NC. The concert will be repeated on Sunday, May 19, at 4:00 p.m. at Home Moravian Church, 529 S. Church Street, Winston-Salem, NC. Both are free and open to the public, and contributions to the Moravian Music Foundation will be accepted at both concerts. (A video recording of this concert will later be available on the MMF website.)
On Sunday, June 30, the Chorale will present the Psalm of Joy, music compiled by J. F. Peter for the celebration of July 4, 1783. This program will take place at 4:00 p.m. at King Moravian Church, 228 W. Dalton Road, King, NC, and will be free and open to the public.
This fall, the Chorale will lead four Singstunden – worship services with some choral anthems and congregational hymns, accompanied by organ. These will be held at the following dates and times:
• Saturday, September 14, 3:00 p.m., Smith Saal, Salemtowne Retirement Community, 1000 Salemtowne Drive, Winston-Salem, NC
• Tuesday, September 24, 7:00 p.m., Fairview Moravian Church, 6550 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC
• Sunday, October 20, 4:00 p.m., Fries Memorial Moravian Church, 251 N. Hawthorne Road, Winston-Salem, NC
• Sunday, November 10, 4:00 p.m., Unity Moravian Church, 8300 Concord Church Road, Lewisville, NC
