VISITOR GUIDANCE
…our building is NOT situated “ON” Church St.;
it is set back and actually behind (east of) Cedarhyrst,
(historic Cedarhyrst is at 459 S. Church St. and is home to the Southern Province offices, the PEC, Commission for Congregational Development, Prov. Women’s Board, and Unity Women’s Desk)
We recommend you navigate to our parking area. An easy way to find that entrance is to use the address: 500 E. Salem Ave.
SAMPLE ROUTE from downtown to MMF offices
Click the photo for more about the Archie K Davis Center:
A.K. Davis Center may be accessed through the doors on the east (lower level, center, postern gates) or the south side (main floor) of the building. There is a ramp from the parking lot.
OPEN : Wednesday ~ Friday
9:30am – 12:30pm
Books, CDs, Gifts, and Unique Moravian items by local artists.
Parking in Salem Fine Arts Center lot (highly recommended):
MMF has ample parking in the Salem College/AKD Ctr/God’s Acre parking lot, at the east side of the building, and it is a bit easier to park and access the Archie K Davis Center. [ 8 spaces + 1 handicapped ]
To find this parking, you may find it easiest to type 500 E Salem Ave. Winston-Salem in your GPS system, to get to the parking area. Or, you may use 412 Rams Dr. which is the address for Elberson Fine Arts Center (with whom we share the parking lot).
From E. Salem Ave, turn west onto campus and Moravian God’s Acre. You will see Elberson Salem Fine Arts Center on the left and God’s Acre on the right. Keep straight to the end of the parking lot and turn right. The brick building, next to God’s Acre (with the cupola), is the Archie K. Davis Center – home of the Moravian Music Foundation and Moravian Archives. There are parking spaces for all visitors that say “Reserved for A K Davis Center.”
Parking in Old Salem:
You may park on Church or Main St. in old Salem and walk through the portico of Cedarhyrst (the castle-like structure, 459 S. Church St.), which houses the offices of the Moravian Church, Southern Province. The A. K. Davis Center is directly behind (east of) Cedarhyrst.
view from the east – parking lot
SPECIAL ASSISTANCE OR HANDICAPPED ACCESS, elevator access, and anyone who needs to save some steps or shorten their walk. Once you have parked in the Salem College/A K Davis Ctr/God’s Acre parking lot (see below), approach the building on the lowest level, at the center door (double gate, east side) and press the CALL button. The intercom is active, and someone will come down the elevator to let you in the building, there, at the double doors.
Caveat: some GPS and online maps do not recognize that Church St. is one way, north only, from Academy St., nor that Bank St. is one way, west only, from Church St
VISIT WINSTON-SALEM is the local convention and visitors bureau; they offer several maps of the city, county, and downtown area, and have a wealth of local information to share.
